More TNR at Atascadero Creek

We getting ready for another “Woods Run” this Wednesday. That’s when we take typically 20 cats down to Woods Humane Society at eight in the morning and drop them off to be spayed or neutered and then pick them up again at four in the afternoon. We keep them overnight to recover from the anesthetic and then release them on Thursday. It makes for a busy several days because we usually start trapping on Sunday.

We trapped 9 cats yesterday from the Atascadero Creek area and will be going out for more this evening and tomorrow.

Feeding Stations for the Atascadero Creek Project

feedingstationedited_crpdMany of you know about the big TNR project we are doing along the Atascadero Creek in downtown Atascadero. You can read a brief description about it here.

Cat friends, fosters, and adopters Bud and Becky Tanner have built 5 feeding stations to provide a protected area for the cats to eat as well as to help eliminate trash in the area. The photo on the left shows one of their stations located alongside the creek. They were specifically designed to blend into the natural ambiance and they look terrific.

If you’re in the area, check them out.

By the way, Bud and Becky own a general contracting business and have done lots of custom homes, remodels, repairs, and more in the area. You can get in touch with them at (805) 235-1251.

Dr. Bell is On the Air

DrBell_oprMake a note to listen to Issues and Ideas on KCBX (the local NPR station at 90.1 FM) at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, Jan. 29. Dr. Tim Bell, one of our favorite vets, will be interviewed (actually it was recorded a couple of days ago) by Donna Cheek, one of our very favorite adopters.

Dr. Bell, the owner and primary veterinarian at North County Animal Hospital on 24th Street in Paso, talks about our upcoming Spay Day and the importance of spay and neuter.

Be sure to tune in.

Declawing Cats Should Be Illegal

dollyanddaisy2I got this petition in my inbox a couple of days ago. It asks Governor Brown to make cat declawing illegal in California. I signed it and sent it to my friends and asked them to sign it too. I don’t know if it will do any good, but it can’t hurt. To tell the truth, I don’t know anything about the background of the petition and I don’t know anything about Amanda Drummand who created the petition (other than what it says at the website). And I usually don’t put my name on anything that I haven’t thoroughly researched. But I am so sure about the evil of declawing cats that I whole-heartedly support any attempt to stop it. If you agree (and I can’t imagine anyone who is reading this blog that doesn’t) please click on this link and add your support. Thanks.

Internet Cat Video Film Festival

Adobe Photoshop PDFCathy and I went to see a Cat Video Film Festival at the Performing Art Center at Cal Poly last night. Apparently, cat videos are a whole genre now – who knew?

Last night’s showing was a 75 minute presentation featuring 85 cat videos from the Internet Cat Video Festival. We had seen some of them including Henri the existentialist and Maru the lover of boxes. In fact, Henri’s creator William Braden, winner of the Golden Kitty Award, MC’d the program.

The event was a fundraiser for the Cal Poly Cat Program and we were there representing Paws Cause along with folks from Woods, North County Humane Society, Feline Network, and Animal Services.

It was a fun evening and helped support one of the great cat programs in the county. Yea!
